Patrol Area
The patrol area is from Cowes westwards to Newtown. East to Fishbourne. North to mid-Solent including the Bramble Bank and the River Medina to Newport. During the winter months the area to the West is extended to Yarmouth.

Patrol Times
365 day cover.
Weekends daylight afloat.
Major race days and regattas afloat, which includes total coverage of Cowes Week.

Average Callouts per Year
Approximately 35 to 40, assisting 100 to 120 persons.

Yacht run aground off Egypt Point and snagged up with lobster pots and line. Unable to free without additional assistance, requested help from Calshot lifeboat. The two lifeboats freed the vessel and towed to Cowes for diver inspection and cutting free from the lobster pots.

Small yacht aground on Wootton rocks. Stood down at the scene.

Vessel with anchor stuck in shallow water in Gurnard bay. Retrieved anchor and escorted yacht to deeper water.

Yacht aground in Thorness Bay. Unable to assist because of the extremely low water. Returned to the scene at 2000 hours and remained on scene until the yacht could be towed free. Transferred one person from the yacht to Cowes in order for her to catch the Red Jet back to the mainland.

Two yachts with a concrete float jammed between the hulls. managed to tow the obstruction free.

Reported sighting of Red Flares in the western Solent. Full search of the area, nothing found. Possible hoax.

Reported sighting of Red Flares east of Cowes harbour. Full search of the area, nothing found. Possible hoax.

0732 hours.
Dory with flat battery, off the Shrape at East Cowes. Vessel taken in tow to Cowes. Engine restarted so that the vessel could return to home port.

yacht aground on Bramble bank. Towed free.

Yacht aground at the entrance to Beaulieu River. Towed free. Coastguard requested the lifeboat return as the vessel then had engine failure near a lee shore. Taken in tow again to deep water.
